DIONE returns

Republic of Gods, Pride & Siblinghood

As part of the Free Republic of the Wiener Festwochen 2026 and their Republic of GodsDIONE returns — not as a classical revival, but as a digital artwork.

What began in 2016 as a transnational and crossdisciplinary art project by Scharmien Zandi, and premiered in Vienna in 2021 as an Opernperformance, now appears in a new form: as a digital trace, a moving archive, a mythology in motion.

DIONE RETURNS
as memory.
as a signal.
as digital art.

The forgotten goddess of sensuality is not simply brought back from the past — she is reassembled: through voices, bodies, images, fragments, rehearsals, performances and collective memories from China, the US and Vienna.

On July 1, DIONE opens another space with a vernissage at L’Art Gallery. Under the theme “Siblings”, Pride Month is symbolically extended beyond June and into July — asking questions about kinship, chosen families, connection, rivalry and new forms of belonging. Throughout July, the exhibition will be accompanied by artist talks and performances, leading up to the finissage on July 31.

Because siblinghood is never just biological. It is mythological, political, social, digital — and sometimes beautifully complicated. From the divine siblings of Mount Olympus to patchwork families, religious ideas of brotherhood and sisterhood, and all the way to the digital twin, the exhibition asks:

How related do we have to be to remain connected?

At L’Art Gallery in Vienna, video installations and images from the DIONE universe will be shown — fragments of an Opernperformance that continues to live on between mythology, cosmos, body, technology and collective memory.

DIONE is back.
And this time, she is not coming alone.
